A popular motif for women around the world, yet the history of the flower dress is often misunderstood.
The existence of the flower garment is more than 1400 years old! Imported from China via the Silk Road, these garments were mostly adorned with floral designs such as peonies. These luxurious fabrics were only available to the wealthy classes of Europe!
The flower then gained popularity during the Renaissance with Italian lace .
Between the 16th and 18th centuries, patterns developed on heavier fabrics. Indeed other countries such as Persia and India participated in the craze for the floral pattern with the trade of beautiful dresses with exotic charm.
On heavy fabrics, it was only in the 18th century with the famous brocade that French and Italian dressmakers added flowers to their creations. The most popular motifs were native flowers such as roses, daisies and carnations. Again, this silk fabric adorned with gold and silver patterns was worn only by the wealthy.
Since the 20th century, the flower garment has been worn all around the world! Evocative of fertility and spring, delicate, gorgeous and pleasant smelling, the flower is one of the most worn designs by women around the world.
