But where the heck did the flower dress come from?

The existence of the flowered garment is over 1400 years old! Imported from China via the Silk Road, these garments were mostly adorned with floral motifs such as peonies. A rare and splendid fabric, only the wealthiest Europeans could afford them! 

It then gained popularity during the Renaissance with Venetian lace.  

With Ottoman merchants in the 16th and 17th centuries, Europe experienced the fashion of Persian velvets! These luxurious fabrics were adorned with floral motifs such as tulip, vine or pomegranate.   

On solid fabrics, it was not until the 18th century with the luxurious brocade that European artisans added floral patterns to the aesthetic vocabulary of clothing. The most popular motifs were European flowers such as the rose, the daisy and the carnation. As with fabrics from the East, this silk fabric adorned with gold and silver thread patterns was only available to the wealthy.   

Today, the flower garment is worn all around the world! Evocative of fertility and the season of nature’s awakening, refined, beautiful enchanting and fragrant, the flower is one of the most popular designs for women around the world.
