But where did the flower dress come from?
The existence of the flower garment is more than 1,400 years old! Coming from China, the first floral dresses were printed on silk. A rare and splendid fabric, only the wealthiest Europeans could afford them!
With the famous Venetian lace, it wasn’t until the 16th century that floral designs began to be widely incorporated into European craftsmanship.
With Ottoman merchants in the 16th and 17th centuries, Europe experienced the fashion of Persian velvets! These luxurious fabrics were embellished with floral motifs such as tulip, vine or pomegranate.
On thick fabrics, it was only in the 18th century with the luxurious brocade that French and Italian couturiers added flowers in their confections. The most appreciated motifs were native flowers such as the rose, the daisy and the carnation. As with fabrics from the East, this silk fabric magnified with gold and silver thread patterns was worn only by the wealthy.
Nowadays, the flower dress is appreciated worldwide! Symbolizing fertility and the season of nature’s awakening, refined, splendid and with a pleasant smell, the flower is one of the most popular designs for women around the world.
